Delicious Movement Mosaic 2020

4 minutes 24 seconds

This summer, Eiko taught a Delicious Movement Workshop intensive at SEATTLE FESTIVAL OF DANCE IMPROVISATION // SFDI 2020 which is presented by VELOCITY DANCE CENTER. Taught online, the intensive consisted of six two-hour classes over two weeks, August 3-14. Participants, as well as Eiko herself, were perhaps a bit skeptical on Zoom teaching at the beginning, but participants were enthusiastic and appreciative both in class and also in doing and sharing their homework.

This is the mosaic the class created at the last class which welcomed other visitors.

These videos are their homework submissions. Eiko asked everyone to use their phone and create simple videos that observe any movement, not at all limited to their own body movement. Heavy edit was discouraged but instead, Eiko asked them to see and examine the work aesthetically and redo it until it became satisfactory. In class, students saw each person's work and used it as a score to move with and discuss. So seeing them together on the last day was a thrill. Thank you everyone for your honest work.

The names of the participants whose works are featured in this mosaic are listed below in order of the mosaic grid from left to right row 1, 2, 3, then 4: Sophie Nevin, Tonya Lockyer, Michelle Fujii, Sarah Hogland, Julie Feyberg, Shari Azar, Michelle Erard, Jiling Lin, Jonathan Contreras, Andres Felipe Mejia Lopez, Jean Hindle, Elizabeth Bobrovnikov, Emily Carson, Dominique See, Amanda Ling
